Pre-Assessment Checklist

To maximize our appointment time together and allow us to focus on advanced topics requiring a professional, please implement as much of the following as possible before your scheduled assessment.

  • Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices during sleep hours and when not in use. The best option is to hardwire devices to avoid wireless connections completely.
  • Cell phones: Limit all use. Forward calls to a landline or talk only using speaker phone or Air Tube headsets. Keep in airplane mode with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi disabled when not in use, in moving vehicles or when service is low. Store away from your body and use a SafeSleeve or similar. Keep cell phones away from babies and young children. Try Google Voice or Open Phone (results in having phone in airplane mode and being able to text/call from PC). There are also options to wire your phone while in use at home.
  • Limit or avoid screen time (gaming systems, iPads, TVs, etc) particularly with young children.
  • Baby monitors should be wired only (no wireless) and placed at least 6 feet from the child. Avoid all infant wearables and electronics (ie; Owlet and infant swing). Cell phones should be kept far away from babies.
  • Replace the microwave with a toaster oven.
  • Unplug electronics rarely used. For example, the decorative lamp on child's nightstand or electric piano.
  • Opt-out of the SmartMeter and request an analog meter. You can find costs and other FAQ at their site. Ask neighbors on both sides to also opt out.
  • Replace LED/CFL bulbs with incandescent ones.
  • Replace dimmer switches with simple on/off switching.
  • Avoid all “smart” devices, wearables, and appliances (ie; Alexa, Google Assistant, Genie, Nest, Ring, FitBit, Apple Watch, etc.).
  • Sleeping areas:
    • If you use Wi-Fi, unplug at night (hint: you can use a timer or remote cut-off switch).
    • Power cell phones off or put in Airplane mode during sleep hours and when not in use. Be sure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are also disabled. Store phone far from sleeping areas.
    • Unplug all electronics within 6-8 feet of the bed. Use a battery-powered clock. For example, an air purifier can be left in use but should be plugged in opposite from the occupant and at as much distance as possible. Certain products such as CPAPs and FSMs can remain in use with modifications such as operating on battery power rather than remaining plugged in.
    • Turn off circuit breakers to bedrooms during sleeping hours. Automation can be added at an additional cost.
